Our 3-8 week residencies are rooted in sustainability, community and meaningful cultural experiences. Commit to a slow, intentional stay to cultivate a strong connection with Zanzibar and your own creative vision.
Where you'll thrive
We cultivate residency opportunities that are as unique as you are. Whether you’re an artist, consultant or environment champion, we’ll connect you with one of our partners to facilitate a meaningful connection and platform to see your ideas prosper. Select between our Creativity, Sustainability, or Social Impact residency, with a diverse range of opportunities and personalized experiences available to create.
All of our Stawi residents have access to creative work spaces, social gatherings, shared meals, and knowledge exchange events. Take part in our mission of linking environmental knowledge with creative expression. Host your own workshops with local community members. Invest time and energy towards your individual work and intention.
Where you'll stay
Tarawanda House is located in the heart of Stone Town, a UNESCO Heritage site. With easy walking between our accommodation, cafes, the beach and the local shopping market, you’ll become easily acquainted with the flow of island life.
Every detail, artwork and piece of furniture has been thoughtfully curated in our guesthouse to elevate the residency experience. Feel at home, nourished and inspired.

Sustainability
Travelers are catalysts for positive change, and our sustainability residency experiences support initiatives that preserve biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and empower local communities. Join in unique and immersive experiences that forge meaningful connections, fostering cultural understanding and mutual respect within the Zanzibar community.
Connect with our local partners who are championing various initiatives around making a positive impact. Get hands-on experience working alongside their efforts or offer your own expertise to nurture the growth of local leaders.

Sustainable fashion: co-creation of designs and development of natural dye processes
Health & wellbeing: co-design outreach projects and support fundraising events

Education: develop school activities for children, support environmental education projects
Creativity
Immerse yourself in our residency for creatives, where photographers, filmmakers, painters, writers (artists of any kind) can come together in collaboration with Zanzibari creators, and also produce individual work. We are here to offer a platform that will enhance your portfolio and encourage meaningful connections with the collective creative community in Zanzibar.
We especially love creative ideas that explore the regeneration of ourselves, each other and nature. How do natural processes and creative expression come together to bring knowledge and awareness to the bigger picture? What kind of knowledge exchange could your practice foster in the Zanzibar community?
